Rufia Valiff

Rufia is a Registered Psychologist and has diverse experience across mental health, educational and community workplaces.

Her passion lies in working with trauma and addiction; especially in minority communities, understanding and working with wellbeing issues impacting daily functioning. Through her work in Australia and the United Kingdom, she has developed an understanding of the impact of social, physical, and developmental factors on mental health, as well as the intergenerational nature of PTSD and mental health issues.

Rufia has extensive experience working across the lifespan, having worked as a School Counsellor with children and adolescents with trauma backgrounds and learning difficulties. She has also worked with adult survivors of traumatic events and clients of refugee backgrounds. She has a deep understanding of the cultural nuances and issues experienced by immigrants and first-generation Australians. Rufia has worked with clients experiencing a range of comorbid mental health, substance and family-related issues, NDIS clients with physical disabilities and chronic health issues.

In practice, Rufia utilises dynamic, evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy to work with complex presentations and guide clients toward positive growth. Her expertise extends to child development, school anxiety and post-traumatic growth to empower clients to achieve their goals through a warm, nurturing space.

Rufia has comprehensive knowledge of counselling and clinical interventions for learning disorders, working with complex mental health presentations, workplace stress, interpersonal issues, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression and trauma. Rufia is experienced in conducting assessments of psychological disorders and autism, psychosocial assessments and clinical interviews to determine the most appropriate tailored interventions for individuals.

Rufia actively supports children and teenagers facing behavioural issues, addressing challenges like bullying and emotional expression. She aims to teach individuals and families to navigate their mental health and well-being through a culturally sensitive, holistic, practical lens.
